## Deal types

A `merger_and_acquisition` event carries a `deal_type`. There are 18 values:

`Acquisition`, `Merger`, `AssetPurchase`, `JointVenture`, `Investment`, `Divestiture`, `SpinOut`, `ReverseMerger`, `ManagementBuyout`, `SchemeOfArrangement`, `TenderOffer`, `SqueezeOut`, `ShareExchange`, `ShareTransfer`, `Demerger`, `Amalgamation`, `StakeBuilding`, `Other`

## Deal statuses

And a `deal_status`, one of 7:

`Announced`, `Pending`, `PendingApproval`, `Completed`, `Terminated`, `Withdrawn`, `Other`

## Classify by deal_type

The event `summary` is a readable line for a list view. If you're writing copy or classifying deals, read `deal_type` and `deal_status`, which are controlled values. A summary can say bought when the structured type is `StakeBuilding`.

## Filtering deals

`DealType`, `DealStatus` and `Jurisdiction` are all filterable in [search_events](/docs/mcp/tools/search_events). On the REST API the same filters apply to [GET /v1/events](/docs/api/reference/events/list-events) when `eventType=merger_and_acquisition`.
