# Organisations

Companies, funds and firms, with their name variants, industries and ownership links.

## Name variants

The same company can appear under more than one name, for example `Halberd Industrial Group` and `Halberd Industrial Group PLC`. Each variant is its own record with its own reference. When a search returns several, pick the one with the most people and events attached, or check each.

## Industries

Industries use GICS codes. A filter on a parent code matches its children, so `20` covers `2010` and `201010`.

## Parents and subsidiaries

Ownership links run both ways. [get_company_ownerships](/docs/mcp/tools/get_company_ownerships) returns the organisations that own a company and the organisations it owns, which for an asset manager usually means its funds.

## Headcount and tracked people

An organisation can carry a recorded headcount. That's a separate figure from the number of profiles linked to it through work history. Expect the tracked number to be lower, since it counts only the people Chikara Intelligence holds a profile for.
