Recorded before the move happened
Thirty-five of the week's moves were recorded before they took effect. A company settles on a new finance chief in July, the appointment starts in September, and for those two months it is a fact that has not yet reached the press. Working a mandate in that sector, that window is real lead time.
A further 35 were recorded on the day itself, so 70 of the 136 were in our data on or before the effective date.
Money arrives with the appointment
Forty-four of the 136 moves carried compensation. The largest was a President and COO appointment at a US-listed industrials group: a $900,000 base, $4m of equity and a target bonus above $1.1m, all recorded in the same week the appointment was made.
Departures ran at 35 against 81 appointments, with 15 retirements among them. Retirements are worth watching closely for succession work: they are almost always planned, and the search behind them is usually already under way.
